Elevating Customer Experiences for Lasting Success: Our UK teams’ approach

Successful drug discovery requires streamlined services to manage studies, collaborations, and materials, while also minimizing logistical challenges and reducing study turnaround times. At Crown Bioscience UK, alongside our broader European and global operations, we believe creating a seamless and engaging customer journey is the key to success.

For our team, it’s not just about delivering a service; it’s about building strong, lasting relationships that enhance the overall customer experience. At the heart of this approach lies our well-integrated team effort, ensuring that every step of the journey—from business development to study execution—is smooth, collaborative, and customer-centric.

Our streamlined services help integrate these elements, ensuring smooth workflows, reducing logistical hurdles, and helping our customers make faster, more reliable decisions on the next steps in their drug discovery journey. By optimizing processes and minimizing delays, Crown Bioscience helps you focus on advancing your drug pipeline, while maintaining the integrity and quality of your studies.

Seamless Integration Across Teams

The foundation of Crown Bioscience’s successful customer journey starts with a well-coordinated effort from our Business Development Representatives (BDRs), Directors of Scientific Engagement (DSEs), and Study Directors (SDs). Instead of working in silos, these teams function as an integrated unit at Crown Bioscience, ensuring a seamless transition from initial engagement to study completion.

Our BDRs and DSEs visit our facilities regularly and engage face-to-face with the various teams, helping to build strong working relationships that support smooth study execution for our customers. Our approach ensures consistent communication and a streamlined process, free from unnecessary delays or redundancies.

The Role of Business Development Representatives

Crown Bioscience BDRs play a crucial role in bridging scientific expertise with customer needs, ensuring a seamless and informed experience. With a strong scientific background across our teams, BDRs can engage in meaningful discussions—providing insights and solutions that align with each client’s specific goals. They work as an extension of your team, fully invested in the entire journey and committed to helping you succeed.

Our BDRs enhance your experience through deeper insights into site-specific capabilities, tailored support, and personalized engagement. They prioritize the timely delivery of critical information, helping you to make informed decisions without unnecessary delays. By analyzing our large collection of available data and historical information, they also help identify potential solutions, even considering more cost-effective alternatives, to ensure you receive the best possible outcome for your research and development efforts.

"As a BDR at Crown Bioscience, I really value the meaningful conversations I have with our customers, supporting them in finding the right solutions for their drug discovery journey. Living near our UK facility has given me the chance to regularly visit the site, see the impressive work our team is doing up close, and stay up to date with the latest technological advancements straight from our experts. This first-hand experience allows me to share accurate insights into our capabilities and ensure customers get the information they need promptly." - Sarah Wagner, PhD.

Early Engagement and Collaborative Efforts

The involvement of our scientific and operational team, including our DSEs and SDs together with our BDRs, plays a vital role in fostering strong, long-term relationships. In some cases, Crown Bioscience team members co-travel to meet with customers as a unified group, strengthening the collaboration through direct, in-depth discussions.

Many of our customers value this level of engagement, regularly including BDRs as well as DSEs and SDs, in brainstorming sessions—online and in person—to align on goals, exchange insights, and refine research strategies together. This proactive approach prevents redundant conversations, streamlines decision-making, and enhances collaboration across all teams involved. For our existing customers, we commonly integrate the dedicated study team early in discussions—before a study is even placed—to ensure seamless communication and shared understanding.

Study Initiation and Ongoing Collaboration

Study initiation marks a critical transition, with the Crown Bioscience SD taking the lead while maintaining a close collaboration with our BDRs to ensure ongoing success. The SD serves as your primary point of contact for the ongoing work, building a unique relationship by understanding your specific goals, providing scientific expertise, and guiding the study through execution.

Unlike a traditional handoff, BDRs remain actively engaged throughout the study, following the compound’s progress, celebrating milestones, and offering support when needed. Their continued involvement also accelerates the preclinical progress of your compounds by proactively gathering relevant options and information in parallel with the study execution. A strong working relationship between our SDs and BDRs helps to clarify outstanding questions, minimize issues, address challenges efficiently, and foster a solution-oriented approach.

Scientific Expertise and Customer-Centric Solutions

A strong scientific background across teams is essential for delivering high-quality service. We continuously develop new technologies to remain at the forefront of cutting-edge technologies, while listening to our specific customer needs.

Our facility operates under the UK’s stringent animal welfare regulations and based on this our team continuously tries to optimize and drive cutting edge approaches to alleviate animal burden while providing relevant models for our customers.

Most recently, we expanded our in vivo imaging capabilities at our facility in the UK, now including high-frequency ultrasound (HF-ultrasound), next to our bioluminescent and CT imaging offering. We use ultrasound to establish orthotopic models, providing a clinically relevant, organ-specific tumor microenvironment that enhances preclinical predictivity compared to subcutaneous models. By leveraging our HF-ultrasound capabilities, we can reduce model implantation time and variability, accelerate post-implantation recovery in animals, and ultimately minimize the overall impact of the procedure.

Additionally, our expanding collection of luciferase-labeled validated in vivo models enables non-invasive, real-time monitoring of tumor growth and treatment response.

Growing interest in the availability of patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models in Europe has led to the expansion of our UK catalogue, with additional models still being added continuously, allowing customers to select models from their indication of interest. Where available, we also ensure matching organoid models for in vitro use will be available at our facility in the Netherlands, enabling a European-centric execution approach.

In addition to this, our facility offers streamlined logistics to mitigate the increasing biosecurity challenges associated with global material shipments. This approach helps simplify processes, ensuring research materials and results remain accessible and secure.

A Commitment to Long-Term Success

The core of Crown Bioscience’s relationship-driven approach is our commitment to treating every client as a valued partner. From the initial engagement to study execution and beyond, maintaining open communication, providing scientific expertise, and fostering collaboration ensures outstanding customer experience. Working hand in hand, Crown BDRs, DSEs, SDs, and operations teams create a seamless, efficient, and rewarding journey for our clients, one that leads to mutual success and long-term partnerships.
